“...and this is what it means to be a member of SeeD! To be the very best! Train hard, and make us proud!”

Gohrick sighed as he headed into the training grounds, dressed in his simple black ninja attire. That was two months ago, and so far, he had been gridded and pushed to his very limits. He had grown stronger, had summon allies to help him, more magic than an average pictomancer should ever have access to, and still, he felt as if he was lacking something.

Granted, he had learned a lot about this new world, and how to avoid certain...less accepting individuals, but at the same time, there was always a feeling of missing something. He stepped up to the gate of the training grounds and swiped his card, allowing him access to some of the more...dangerous fiends. He had earned that right and needed to blow off steam.

“Alright...let's see what finds me this time,” he said as he slowly unsheathed his weapon of choice, the Magical Brush. He would need the boost to magic it gave, not to mention the range it provided for some of the beasties in here. He wouldn't forget the time he came in here with the Air Lancet and ran into a T-Rexer. He might as well as been holding a stick for all the good it had done him.

“Alright...let's begin,” he said softly, twirling the brush lightly in his paws before getting into a ready stance, as a small horde of Gnats started to appear from the vegetation. Certainly easy enough to deal with on their own, but get a group together and spraying acid and you had yourself one hell of a party.

Being in the SeeD program had changed him greatly. No longer was he scared of combat, but enjoyed the rush of it. In fact, it could be seen as the ultimate adrenaline high he was able to achieve up to date. He smirked, before rushing in, blindsiding one of the Gnats with the brush, the orb bottom of it slamming into it's head before he quickly turned around to avoid a bath that would eat through him like tissue paper. Just another day at the Garden.

"Sit down, shut up, and enjoy the ride. If you don't, well too bad, this is the only ride from start to finish, so make the best of it. You might be surprised at what an unexpected turn can bring ya."

Fury walked into the CIC of the control room in the Garden's training center. He poured himself a cup of coffee and sipped it as he stood before the video surveillance screens. His eyes scanned the screens until he found the one thing he was looking for. The figure had a long black cloak on that covered a lot of his features, but his build was definitely male. The getup was reminiscent of a ninja save for the one thing that gave away his true identity. A faint bulge could be seen running from his rear almost down to the ground. It was hard to see especially through the computer screens, but Fury was already looking for it.

A tail.

Fury sighed and took a seat at a nearby desk and placed the coffee mug down. He pulled a thin, manila folder off the desk and opened it up. He quickly glanced over the contents, too quickly to actually read. He had already read the file multiple times, as well as the other files. He knew everything they had on the mithra. Gohrick Trisona. Born in Vana 'Diel. Left at a young age and worked his way out of the world. Crashed on Spira, where he was recovered by Al Bhed. He served with them for a while until he met Shade Leonhart and was cured mysteriously of his ailments. At which point he struck off on his own and enrolled in the Balam Garden SeeD school.

Fury placed the folder down and rubbed his face to wake himself up. It had been another long night working on his new pet project. Craig had warned him that spending too much time on the project and not getting enough sleep would bite him in the ass the next day. Fury didn't listen of course. He wanted to finish the project so badly and was so close to it, he just lost track of time. So now he was running on less than two hours of sleep.

Fury looked to the youth sitting at the massive console under the screens and asked, "Ready for the fun to begin?" The youth wheeled his chair around and nodded to Fury. Fury leaned forward in his chair and stared intently at the screen containing Gohrick. "Good, follow my instructions to the letter as quickly as you can." Gohrick had excelled in the program over the past few weeks he had been in the program. Now it was time to see what he was really made of.

"Send in a ruby dragon."

Gohrick back flipped hard into the air, avoiding a pair of tentacles belonging to another Gnat, landing almost silently as he smirked at the creature. There were only about four more of the beasties and so far, he had blown off the steam he had.

'Once I wrap this up, I'll hit up the library for that History assignment,' he thought, getting back up into a fighting stance with a slight twirl of his brush, ink dropping from the brush of his weapon as he readied himself. That was when Gohrick felt something in the room shift, a slightly heavier vibration shaking through the ground. He noticed the lights flicker slightly, as if they were being drained and Gohrick's ears perked up as he lowered his hood. What on earth was that about?

He didn't have too much time left to think about it as another Gnat gathered it's courage and started to rush towards Gohrick. He shook off the feeling of dread and took two steps towards the rushing beast before it was stomped and pushed out of the way.

Red scales covered the new beast and Gohrick quickly back peddled as he tried to realize what he was seeing. It slowly turned it's head, looking Gohrick right in the eyes, only intensifying the feeling of dread that Gohrick had originally felt. He knew this creature, but never had seen it in real life, not that he had ever wanted to.

A Ruby dragon. Something that wasn't supposed to show up in this training program. Hell, he wondered if he even had access for them to show up! He gulped slightly and slowly started to evaluate the situation. It was between him and the gate and he knew there was no way it was going to let him go, judging from the hungry look in it's eyes.

Alright, time to see how he was going to deal with this dragon. He had never gone up against anything like this before, but there was always a first time for anything. His free paw started to glow faintly, before a paintbrush materialized out of the magic. He quickly drew a rune in the air before overcharging it.

“Magical Art : Lightning Art!”

The rune exploded in a cackle of electricity, several arcs of lightning hitting the ground and surrounding area as several bolts headed straight for the dragon itself. Time to see if these things were as tough as the books said.

PostSubject: Re: A Day in the Garden...(Open)   Mon Aug 27, 2012 9:19 pm

While walking down the lone hallway to the training Center, Shade's attention was fully absorbed to the open file in her hands and the usual scowl across her brow. There seemed to be some discrepancies in the training scores with some of the last year SeeD students, so the Head Master chose to take it upon herself to check into it, hoping the computer archives in the system could shed some light on the claims that the students earned higher scores than what they were actually given.

She hadn't even reached the Observatory room yet when the commotion on the other side of the double doors of the actual training facility caught her attention with a sharp turn of her head. Funny... she checked the scheduling logs from the main system in her office to be sure the Center wasn't being used at this hour so she could investigate the system thoroughly without distraction or interruption. By the commotion echoing through the doors, it was obvious a serious session was taking place. With a sigh of slight annoyance and a roll of her steel hued eyes, Shade decided to press on. Perhaps luck would cut her a break and she wouldn't have to wait too long for whatever current training to come to an end.

Opening the Observatory door, Shade found herself paused at the threshold and a bit taken back by finding her brother within the room along with the service cadet handling the control panel. Without word, she quietly entered and softly closed the door behind her so not to break Fury's observation of the student below. Naturally, she felt like scolding him, knowing the hectic schedule her sibling was enduring of late, but bit back any word with the knowing it was already a loosing argument. Instead, Shade approached to stand at Fury's side to take a gander at the training session below, only to find her eyes widen a bit at the unexpected sight. She knew Gohrick had taken to the SeeD program quickly, and excelling at an impressive rate for an outworlder, but she also knew how the Mithra took too many risks due to his feline instincts.

Without looking at her brother, her words came out with a cynical tone. "You're already throwing a Ruby Dragon at him? With no assistance?"

She looked at him now, with her left eyebrow arched up, yet taking note at just how weary Fury looked in the eyes. "For Hyne's sake, Fury... that's even a struggle for a team of three, let alone one Mithra who hasn't even learned to Draw magic yet..." Still, Shade knew and understood how her brother's mind worked. He didn't go lightly on anyone. It was how he learned a student's strengths and weaknesses right off the bat in order to train them to be better. And now seeing that Gohrick used a lightning attack on the rather moody dragon, Shade groaned inwardly already knowing the spell wasn't going to have much an effect on the beast. She even had to bite down on her tongue to keep from using the intercom to tell her friend exactly what the massive fiend was weak to.

For now.... Shade had to trust in her brother's judgement and trust in Gohrick's instincts and skills....

The ruby dragon burst from the tree-line like the trees were no more than tooth-picks. His thunderous feet slammed into the ground in front of the Mithra, shaking the ground beneath his feet. He was barely twenty feet from the cat, easily within striking distance for its rows of razor-sharp teeth. It's scales shimmered in the light of the simulator, giving the dragon and almost sparkly look. It's eyes were large and yellow. The orbs were focused on one thing and one thing only: Gohrick. And those eyes told everything that the creature would do to the cat if it got the chance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fury was impressed with the simulator. He had faced a ruby dragon in the simulator before, but had never really gotten the chance to sit back and inspect the beast since he was thrust into battle as soon as he saw it. It was impressive that the simulator could make it seem so lie-like. He took a sip from his coffee and turned to the service cadet to say, "Got this one from the book: A Thousand Ways to Wok Your Cat." The cadet gave him an uneasy smile before going back to her console.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The dragon stared at the mithra. It was waiting for him to make the first move like it was programmed to. The dragon could take a tremendous amount of damage before falling and Fury sent it in just to see how much damage this cat could take. The mithra's hand shot up to the air and a paintbrush materialized. He drew a rune over the dragon in the air and shouted something that meant nothing to the dragon. The rune exploded, sending lightning across the room and striking the dragon several times. The dragon reacted just as it would in real life. Meaning it gave a low, gut-wrenching roar that might have been mistaken for a chuckle. The attack tickled the beast.

The dragon realized it was his turn. He reared his head back and charged up a torrent of fire. He then shot his head forward and bathed where Gohrick was standing with a water-fall of fire and molten rock. If the mithra didn't move, he would have surely been extra crispy. The dragon ceased it's attack and gave a slight smirk, pleased with itself. This was going to be a short fight indeed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fury looked up from his monitor to look at his sister when she spoke. Her words rang hollow in his ears as he gave her a blank stare. How could she scold him for this? Heck, she had him fight Bahamut for his final SeeD test, this cat should be more than capable of handling this ruby dragon. Besides, he needed to see how far he could push the cat before he would succumb to wounds, either physical or mental. He waited for his sister to finish before his lips split to respond in his usual sarcastic tone, laced even heavier since it was morning, "I believe in finding the students' fullest potential. I'm just giving Mr. Trisona a little push towards greatness."

He wheeled his chair over to the console the cadet was behind and shooed the girl away from it. He began typing at the keyboard furiously. "If you think it's too much for the kitten, though, I'll have him fight something a little more his speed..." He hit enter on the keyboard and the program was sent into the simulator. He rolled back in front of the monitor and watched.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A low chanting could be heard throughout the simulation room. The dragon remained and was keeping Gohrick busy, but there was something else there now. After a moment of the chanting, twenty moombas in red fur burst out from the tree-line behind Gohrick carrying wooden spears and make-shift weapons. The screeched and hollered at the mithra, out for blood, at the same time that the dragon let out a ground-shaking roar. Needless to say the cat was stuck in between a rock and a hard-place.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A smirk split Fury's face as he sipped his coffee again. "I never said when he would fight them."

Gohrick saw as the lightning attack struck home only for the beasts deep roar to reach his ears. His eyes, every so trained to pay attention to detail, didn't even see a scratch on the dragon's scales. Oh boy...this wasn't even going to come close to good. He steadied his brush as Ruby's head reared back, only to see the very air around it's mouth heat up in waves. That was the only warning he had before it unleashed the stream of fire.

“Ah shyt, shyt , shyt!” he cried out as he jumped hard to his left, still feeling the flames licking at his fur as he landed in a tumble roll and quickly moved back onto his feet. He panted as he quickly looked down his jacket and boots, seeing the singe created by the heat. He quickly locked eyes back with his foe and nodded his head. This wasn't going to be time for messing around .

“Alright...let's see just how tough you really are...”
he muttered, before giving a swing of his Magical Brush. He started to rush towards the creature, before stopping short as he heard the vicious chanting. He quickly turned and grumbled at whoever was running this simulation now was going to get a massive kick in the ass.

He saw the mass of red and golden fur and never knew Moombas could look so vicious. Eying their weapons, and seeing the position he was in, he knew he had to step up his game and very soon, least he end up cooked and eaten.

Magical energy seemed to flow into and around the Mithra as he brought a single paw up to his lips, muttering softly. His weapon seemed to melt as it reverted to ink stage and quickly vanished into his inkwell.

'Need to be fast,'
he thought, before he unleashed his chain of spells.

“Ninja Art : War Mantra”
“Ninja Art : Futae”
“Ninja Art : Gale”

Energies surrounded Gohrick seemed to explode as he boosted his natural abilities with War Mantra, increasing his magic, speed and tossing a Protect spell around himself. As that was still weaving into his body, his second spell increased his magical prowess in the Ninja Arts, increasing the next one cast by 100%. The last spell was a wind based attack shaped like a blade, which was thrown hard at the Ruby Dragon, the wind raging like a controlled cyclone. Even if the attack missed, he was letting it known here and now that he wasn't going down without a fight.

Shade could only shake her head silently as she ventured into the room, already forgetting the reason why she was there in the first place with a toss of the file to a nearby console not being used. She expected Fury's reply, but often wondered if some of his testing beheld a legit purpose, or in some cases, were simply out of twisted humor. Especially with Gohrick.... Fury often slid in cat jokes under his breath simply due to the Mithra's feline characteristics, and although it was all harmless fun, Shade knew there were times her brother enjoyed having the upper hand of challenges just to see how good, how smart, and how skilled Gohrick proved to be. Shade didn't have a doubt in her friend's abilities at all, knowing of his dreadful past and the strength of his endurance, so for now, Shade just stood beside her brother and quietly watched the session unfold.

Gohrick's natural reflexes saved his hide and tail from being fried to a crisp, where others would have found themselves in the medical quarters for 3rd degree burns by now, but what followed led Shade's hand to rise to her face with an inward groan. It would seem Fury had created his own simulation of attacking Moombas, which was never the case in the reality of her world. Yet she had to give her brother credit for creativity that kept every one of his students on their toes when it came to the unexpected.

Her attention was focused on what the Mithra would do as her brows creased while witnessing Gohrick cast up his next spells. Obviously he was buffing up his skills and adding some protection to himself now that he found himself so outnumbered, but the following attack came blasting against the ruby dragon, who seemed caught unawares as a wind spell having such a drastic effect against its size. “The bigger they are.. the harder they fall...”, she muttered to herself as the cyclone of winds whirled beneath the dragon's massive wings with such force that his bulk was knocked off balance and carried back until the beast toppled over to slam against his back upon the hard ground with a raging scream. Wind may not be his weakness, but it would appear Gohrick was using the dragon's mighty size to its disadvantage, harming it physically where Gohrick's base of magic couldn't do so before with his first attack.

The army of oncoming Moombas were another challenge all together. But Gohrick had an advantage where other SeeDs did not. He was feline, just as a Moombas were... and felines knew the weakness of other felines, even when not fight related. Shade just hoped that during all the chaos with the ruby dragon and trying to survive Fury's test, that the Mithra could remember to be as crafty and sly as his appointed Instructor in order to succeed and pass, as well as survive the challenge in one piece.
