Gohrick stared into her eyes and shook his head slightly, seeing the worry and anger flashing through her eyes like one would watch a television. He looked up at the sky as well and could only imagine just how hard an impact it would have made if he had hit. Maybe 3...five feet crater?

“Shade, this might sound crazy, but don't worry about it. And don't stress so much on what if's and could haves...there is only what is and what is to be. What is – We're safe, if not a little worn out and, in my case, pooped on. What is to be...We'll have to try that again but without the damn birds messing up our fun,” he said, turning back to her and giving her a warm smile.

He then followed her gaze and nodded his head, readjusting the jacket around his waist as he started to move towards the ruined village. He felt the fur on his neck stand up a bit as he felt a much stronger pull of what he was assuming the life stream. He shuddered and could swear he felt it just under the grass of his boots.

“Alright, let's check this place out. Who knows what we could find here,” he said, his voice still showing his excitement from the free fall they had just done. He caught the fact that she had paused, but didn't given it any notice, feeling a familiar presence making it's way towards them.

'I would be running in the opposite direction if I was him...' he thought with a slight giggle, before feeling the ground starting to shake. He quickly walked a few more paces forward, before the actual landing took place, with a large skid that buried a nearby meadow. He chuckled at the proud look on Griever's face, but stayed back out of this conversation.

He crossed his arms behind his back as he watched the interaction between Summoner and Summon, before hearing Shade yell at him to spit something out.

Gohrick stared at the angry, honking goose for a good 15 seconds as the silence surrounded them. He stared at it, then stared at the crap that was still on his shoulder, then back at the bird. He blinked, before a smile formed on his face. It quickly turned into a giggle, which in turn changed to a chuckle. Then a laugh. Then a loud laugh as Gohrick found himself falling on his rear, his laughter ringing through the area around them as he just couldn't believe what he was seeing.

Without even thinking about it, he spoke up, tears in his eyes as he continued to laugh.
“Oh, good Griever! That’s the bird that crapped on me! Oh, this is priceless!” he said, still laughing and falling onto his back. It might have been a bit over the top, but that was Goh for you. When something really struck him as funny, he would laugh with his heart and soul. That was how he did everything...heart and soul on the line.

"Sit down, shut up, and enjoy the ride. If you don't, well too bad, this is the only ride from start to finish, so make the best of it. You might be surprised at what an unexpected turn can bring ya."

Now faced with Griever's sulking and the Mithra laughing so hard, it landed him on the ground and still giggling, Shade knew her previous anger and annoyance were defeated. With her arms uncrossing to place her hands upon her hips, she lowered her head and shook it slowly as if she were a flustered parent, but in truth, her hair was hiding her own smirk twitching over her lips. How could she possibly remain mad when outnumbered by two obviously humorous felines? So with sigh to rid herself of any remaining irritation, Shade reached out and gave Griever a tug on his mane to follow as she turned and approached Gohrick with a lowered hand to assist him back upon feet with the smirk still remaining. “Alright you two, we don't have much daylight left, so we better head off.”

The trek wasn't far, yet venturing to the unknown made each of Shade's steps feel hesitant with caution. Once they reached the top of the sloping hill, there was literally very little left of what was once the small village of Mideel. Just about every structure was virtually collapsed, and by what little information Shade ever found about the place, it was definitely once a small community compared to the bigger cities like Midgar. But the grandest sight was the large pond of what everyone believed to be the Lifestream of the planet itself. Even Shade could sense its unique power, yet the soft teal glow also resonated an unspoken warning of danger as well, which she assumed was the reason no one bothered to rebuild here. Perhaps that also was what kept this place safe from greed attempting to tap into such power for personal gain as ShinRa attempted for itself in the past.

The closer they came upon the shambles of the village and the glowing stream of energy pooling from the ground, Shade gave notice to her Guardian Force slowing his pace behind them until Griever came to a stop some several yards away and simply sat upon the ground with a leery growl within his throat. She didn't question it, or force her summons to follow any further, but it did lead Shade to focus more on Gohrick since he was also more instinctively in tune with the nature of things as he was in Banora. ”Word of caution Gohrick... I've read where poisoning could occur with Mako, which is what I was told this power consists of... so perhaps we shouldn't get too close. It was an earthquake of sorts that disrupted this place and led the people to flee, so be very careful where you roam. I'm sure what's left of these structures is unstable...”

((I know it's short .__. I'll compensate in my next post. Just wanted to get the ball rolling))

Gohrick smirked and reached up, taking her hand and pulling himself back up on his feet, his tail curling up and whipping around his waist before relaxing once more as he gave her a playful smirk, seeing the tugging on her lips. It was hard to see, but the more time he spent with her, the more he saw those small hints. He was an artist, and to an artist, details are everything. He quickly dusted off the SeeD pants he had on and readjusted the jacket around his waist, before giving her a nod of his head.

“Lead the way Lady Shade,” he said with a small grin, before putting his arms behind his head, stretching slightly and enjoying the fact that he could do so now with no pain. He knew it would take a while before the phantom pains vanished, but dealing with those was nothing more then a mild annoyance for the time being, and far from feeling the actual pain.

He followed behind her, a carefree stance in his walk, but his ears were darting around, reacting to every sound as his blue eyes scanned around them casually. As they neared the village, he felt his fur sticking up slightly, and paused midstep, closing his eyes and feeling the area around him through his other senses. There was no actual danger, but from what his gut was telling him was to exercise extreme caution.

He opened his eyes and continued walking behind Shade, now about ten paces behind her as the first signs of the abandoned village started to come into view. He couldn't help but give a low whistle as he saw the massive damage that had been done, not to mention the giant green, glowing pool in the center of the village.

As he was about to open his maw to question, Shade was already explaining what had happened, what it was he was seeing, and echoing his gut in the use of extreme caution, not to mention giving him a new word to work his mind around : Mako.

“I promise, I'll be careful...though I do want a closer look,” he admitted, before pulling out his note pad and flipping through a few pages, finding a blank one and pulling out a simple pen. He gave her a smile, before slowly moving towards the 'lake', taking care to walk only on the most solid ground as he intended to keep his promise. However, he was still quite a distance away from the lake when he had to stop, his fur sticking up in all directions, causing him to look like he had been tossed in the dryer. He sighed and tried to smooth out his fur, before just giving up and squatting down, getting a different view of the lake in front of them. He saw all the buildings and even a few that were partially in the lake, his pen moving over the paper and making a few quick sketches as he just observed and 'listened' to the voices around him.

"Sit down, shut up, and enjoy the ride. If you don't, well too bad, this is the only ride from start to finish, so make the best of it. You might be surprised at what an unexpected turn can bring ya."

Shade remained where she stood as Gohrick continued on after he confirmed her warning. She slowly took in the sights around her as her own memories were triggered by the shambled structures around them. She had lost count to how many times she had she seen such destruction in her own lifetime, but the internal pain was always the same none the less. Just as the more vivid images and screams began to seep through the barricading walls within her mind, Shade gave a slight shake of her head to ward them off. This was not the time or place to reflect, nor did she wish to ruin Gohrick's bewilderment and curiosity of this place.

By the time her wandering gaze found the Mithra again, she blinked a time or two suspecting her vision had gone mysteriously hazy by the sight of Gohrick's fur appearing all fizzled out as if he were struck by a bolt of static electricity. With her lips drawn in and pressed tight, Shade slowly shook her head as she approached him with leisure steps while trying to take in what beauty remained in Mideel by nature's splendor alone. The breeze remained subtle, as it was in Banora, yet now the late afternoon had slightly cooled and with a cluster of clouds rolling through the skies. At least the birds dared to return here to offer their songs to soften the eerie presence of their surroundings.

He was already set to work by the time Shade reached him. Now, standing quietly behind the Mithra, she gazed over his shoulder to watch his sketching hand, secretly marveling at his talent for capturing even the little things most people tend to overlook, such as a patch of newly grown foliage sprouting through the base of the crumbled wooden bridge, dawning newly awakened folds of violet petals of promising life reborn through the devastation of destruction. It reminded her of a chapter in life ending, only to begin another with a fresh start. Not wanting to disrupt Gohrick's concentration, Shade simply lowered herself slowly to sit upon the ground next to him, staring into the hypnotic luminous glow of the pond while occasionally sparing a glance at the sketchbook to see what how Gohrick's drawings were progressing.

Perhaps it was due to the ease between Shade and Gohrick, or perhaps the tranquility of the place finally sank in, which gave Griever the sense to finally creep closer into the territory with trepidation in his steps as if testing the ground with his massive paws and talons before finding the confidence to stalk even closer. Before long, his snout was lowered behind them and in between their shoulders as the Guardian Force also gazed down at what had Gohrick's full attention on the paper. Seeing nothing of interest to a Summons beast's mind, Griever gave a resounding snort through his nose that blew a sudden powerful gust of air through both Shade's and Gohrick's hair before flopping his entire body to collapse onto the grass with a jolt of tremors through the ground before releasing a very wide and groaning yawn into the air. Thus confirmed the true reason that led the Guardian Force into the area.... he was flat out bored and lonely.....

Gohrick found himself lost in a landscape of white paper and ink as his eyes darted up only time to time, catching new scenes and quickly recording them on paper, his sketch becoming more detailed and refined. He never erred in his strokes, his pen moving with the accuracy of a bowman hitting a bullseye as he started to bite his lower lip in concentration. He didn't even realize when Shade had looked over his shoulder, or when she sat down next to him.

He stared back at the paper, before he moved the armor on his left arm and seemed to open up a few little vials that were on it, his pen dipping in and adding some color to the black and white picture, and while he didn't have all the exact colors, working with what he had, he managed to get within the 'acceptable' margin of error for an artist.

'This place is a sleeping giant...an untapped well of pure power that should never be disturbed...I can't understand how anyone could ever hope to even try and control something this wild and powerful. It was like trying to control the wind...there was never any chance to start with,' he thought, giving his lips a lick as he focused on getting as close as he could using the ink to get that radiant glow of the Mako. He was brought out of his trance as Griever blew over them, causing him to nearly lose his paper and blinking in shock as his body shifted from the mini quake the Summon had caused.

He shivered slightly as another cool wind blew through his fur, his blue eyes looking between himself and Shade and seeing the bored looking Summon, causing him to chuckle lightly. The poor feline looked like he would rather be chasing another flock of geese then standing by the 'lake' shore.

He said nothing though, looking back at Shade and giving her a small, warm smile. He was truly still overcoming the shock that someone who saw so little in themselves could miss just how beautiful they really were. And such power when she transformed. She was a force of nature, and just like any of nature's gifts, it was hard not to notice how natural of a beauty she truly was.

“I want to thank you Shade, for helping me. For healing me. For showing me a place like this...for helping out a wounded stray. For showing me that not everyone is out for my pelt, or for my talents. That there is still very much good in these worlds...” he said softly with an adoring smile, before looking up and seeing the stars slowly starting to come out as the Sun began it's descent.

Without really thinking about it, he found himself leaning back, his paws moving behind him and brushing against her hand as it rested on the ground. He had a small blush, but he kept his paw on her hand and gave it a soft squeeze, a small sign of affection, before he gave a small sigh of happiness and contentment.

"Sit down, shut up, and enjoy the ride. If you don't, well too bad, this is the only ride from start to finish, so make the best of it. You might be surprised at what an unexpected turn can bring ya."

She bore a scowling expression of annoyance over her face as Shade fumbled with her blown over hair from Griever's bored snort of breath, not even realizing Gohrick was looking at her until she heard him speak again. Her hands paused through her messy layered mane as her steel hued gaze peered through the thick fallen strands over her face to lock with his own, finding herself momentarily dumbfounded by his words. Finally, she released a light sigh and simply flopped her mangled mess aside to rest her elbow on her knee and lean her cheek against her hand while managing somewhat of a response to such overwhelming gratitude. "Bringing you here was no trouble, Gohrick.... I somehow knew you could be trusted knowing of such a place like Banora and its secrets. The fact that its most sacred secret found you worthy of it's healing proved I was right all along. It wasn't me who healed you, Gohrick. Sure, I helped in awakening the power the only way I knew how, but remeber when I told you to believe? To have the utmost faith in yourself? That's what fueled that particular power...."

Her gaze drifted away to nothing in particular as she paused for a moment by yet another fleeting memory. "The misinterpretation of the "gift" is always assumed something given.... when all along the gift is within ourselves..." A slight knowing smirk twitched at her lips before Shade returned her full attention back to her company. "All of us are wounded strays in one form or another, Gohrick. Thing is, most tend to feed upon the bitterness of those wounds, where those like you and I cling to the strength the scars leave behind in order to move on and become stronger for it. That power that healed you recognized that in you and was able to tap into that strength in order to see you healed."

Her own hues wandered to up to the sky to witness the growing dusk and awakening stars as Gohrick chose to lie back and rest. Even with her own short jacket worn, the cool breeze seeped through, yet what caused a slight jolt of surprise wasn't the chill in the air, but the unexpected contact of his paw against her hand. Her breath paused for only a brief second as she forced a reminder to her instincts that he was simply showing her his appreciation, as well as still overjoyed to be rid of his relentless pain, and so, Shade kept her hand in place within his grasp. "The good is far and few throughout the realms... but once found, I've come to witness that hope is possible again. That alone is worth believing in miracles no matter how dark things become."

Gohrick heard the pause in her breath, but when she didn't move her hand, he took it as it was, and gave it a gentle squeeze once more, before releasing it with a small smile. He leaned further back, resting his bare back on the grass as he stared up at the stars, running over her words in his head while slightly nodding.

“Even the darkest hour is but 60 minutes, and in the darkest of shadows, there is still hope and light...” he said softly with a small smile.

“And in this course of events, you were that light for me Shade. And even if it was a combined effort between the two of us and the Life Stream, it still wouldn’t' have happened if it wasn't for you. You were the catalyst, like I said earlier...give yourself the credit due,” he said with a gentle smile on his maw.

“These past years...since Biharo branded me...it was a game of balance, trying to stay as much in the light as I could...Friends helped me...more then I could imagine, but I would always find myself slipping...every time I felt the twinge of pain on my back, every time I would see it in the reflection...every time someone saw it...”
he paused, taking a deep breath and closing his eyes for a moment as those painful memories came up, times when he had less or loose morals or would do just about anything to help ease the pain, if only for a few hours.

“It was a step back. Now, I don't have to worry about that anymore. I can truly move forward. I can start really living again. I don't have to feel so weak anymore...Though, granted, I know I'm not the toughest example of a Mithra...maybe I should do something to work on that as well...” he said, his eyes just staring up as he simply spoke from the heart and from the top of his head, his voice becoming stronger as he continued to speak.

“I never would have imagined all this would have started by getting tackled by a hyperactive squirrel and winged puppy. I didn't dare to imagine, to dream...I always felt it in the back of my head that I was going to be hunted...owned...You gave me back my hope Shade. And don't say you didn't...honestly, in the end, you could have forced the money and left me in Deling...but you stayed. You accepted my gift...and gave me something far more then I anticipated. You gave me my future again. You were my angel, and who knew you came with the beautiful wings and eyes as well?”

He paused in his monologue and chuckled softly.

“I'm sorry. I must be talking your ear off at this point. It's already dark out, and I'm sure you have much better things to do then listen to a self absorbed Mithra,”
he said, turning his head and smiling up at her, his eyes catching her's instantly and the amount of admiration and caring that radiated off of them could probably dull the glow of the Life Stream.

"Sit down, shut up, and enjoy the ride. If you don't, well too bad, this is the only ride from start to finish, so make the best of it. You might be surprised at what an unexpected turn can bring ya."

As Shade listened to the brief confession of Gohrick's personal suffering and endurance, she couldn't help but feel a remarkable kinship by her own past. As her thoughts dwelled deeply, she wrapped her arms around her lower legs and rested her chin upon her knees as her voice softened. "I wasn't physically marked as you were, but I was branded as a child none the less, Gohrick. Marked by others because of what I was, what they feared, not after my "pelt" so to speak, but the powers I beheld still led me to be hunted by those who feared, or felt they could contain and control me...." She turned her head to look back at him as he lied down upon the ground to offer him a weak smile. "So I fully understand those "slipping" moments. Throughout my life I was accused of being the future demise of my planet and even sought after by so many fanatic groups who desperately tried to preach fear throughout countless cities to have me either destroyed, or sealed away for the rest of my life. As I grew older.... there were times I so wanted to...." She paused and scoffed away the bitterness of old to embrace her inner strength again. "But just like you, I had certain friends who reminded me of the truth, of who I really was, and the good in me when there were times I refused to see it."

She even managed a genuine smile when Gohrick mentioned their first encounter in Deling city thanks to Skittles and Haylo. The scene played through her mind all over again, never dawning at the time that a friendship would grow out of some random stranger insisting on painting an image of her. "I like to think that Haylo and Skittles have this secret philosophy about people that others could never fathom. I think that's why they were drawn to you to begin with.... they just knew.... where I would have most likely passed you by without a second glance being so worried over mundane politics." As to his compliments, Shade could only give a nervous glance and a nod of acceptance since she was never accustomed to praise or words of adoration spoken to her. But when his following words lightened the mood a bit, she gave a subtle shake of her head with pure kindness in her eyes. "Trust me, Gohrick.... I'm rather enjoying the conversation, be it dark or not. Being so overwhelmed with my obligations and cooped up in meetings and Garden affairs, I've completely forgotten what it's like to experience any kind of reprieve. It's quite a surprising change having time to myself where no one knows where to find me. as well as talking with someone about pleasant matters, rather than responsibilities and juggling orders."

The tranquility of the evening was soon filled with random chirping crickets, until an unexpected snore rumbled from behind them from Griever now sleeping on his back with his tongue flopped out of the side of his massive maw as his uplifted paws were brought up to his chest and his hind legs twitching in the air by some unknowing dream floating through the Guardian's slumber.

Gohrick tilted his head as he listened to Shade, sitting up on his elbows and staring up into her eyes as she spoke. He had no reason to doubt her, but even as she spoke, he could see her emotions just barely reflecting on the steel wall she had up as she talked about her past. This was the first bit he really knew about her, and by the Gods, he wanted to know more about this amazing woman sitting in front of him. But as many would be sated with this small amount of information, for the Mithra, it just raised even more questions.

Questions that included but were not limited to : Why were her powers viewed as so bad? Who were the people after her? Who was stupid enough to try and control her?

Gohrick didn't know much about her, not having spent more then perhaps a few days together at the most. 'Funny...seems much longer...' he thought to himself, before giving his head a slight shake. Back on track, it was clear to him that whatever nature her power was, it was like the Mako in the lake. It was too wild, to powerful to try and control except for the person it belonged to. In that case, only Shade had a prayer at controlling her own powers, and pity on the person who tried to control her.

He continued to stare into those steel eyes that showed so much kindness, matching a smile and a figure that seemed nearly as relaxed, for the moment at least, as the painting of her has reflected. He could only smile back as he knew he had seen what was truly under the surface. Still...

His smile faulted slightly as the questions continued to bounce around in his head, before he resolved himself to just asking her. Worst that could happen was she leave him behind in the middle of nowhere and he had to swim an ocean or three to find out where he was...that was pretty bad, but still...

“Shade...I hope you don't think it too forward of me...and I hope you don't think me out of line, but I was wondering...if you could possibly elaborate a bit on your powers. Personally, I find them awe inspiring and quite wondrous to see...When I first saw it by the tree...I honestly don't think I could have felt any smaller. I was blessed, it seems, when I met you, and that has not changed at all. Here was someone, who by mere presence alone, could break me physically and mentally...but chose instead to help me. That alone doesn't seem like the bringer of the end of times, nor does it seem enough of a reason to have zealots and crazies spreading hateful lies or rumors...,” he said, staring into her eyes as he spoke, merely having his ears twitch as he heard the snoring summon behind him.

“For me, it's understandable...Male Mithra. Rare enough to find, much less out of the protection of the tribe...rare pelt, rare minerals that people believe to be helpful in potions and such...but for you...Having an amazing power doesn't seem quite...Especially when tied to someone as kind as you are.”

"Sit down, shut up, and enjoy the ride. If you don't, well too bad, this is the only ride from start to finish, so make the best of it. You might be surprised at what an unexpected turn can bring ya."

After hearing another abrupt snort through Griever's steady snoring, Shade turned her head to give the Guardian Force a rather annoying scowl, even though he wouldn't see it while continuing to sleep soundly. It was then she heard Gohrick question her about what little of her past she spoke of, leading only her gaze to slide back down at him. She didn't mind being questioned, but so few ever did that she wasn't quite sure how to answer. After glancing away for a brief moment to ponder how to begin, her steel hues returned to his with the side of her face resting upon her knees again. "Where I come from, my powers are considered extremely dangerous. Some who had them before me even tried to use such powers in attempts to destroy, or rule my world. So it's the powers people fear, Gohrick.... not the person who beholds them." She gave a half hearted shrug before drifting her stare back to the ground as memories tried to replay themselves through her mind.

"So imagine, if you will, such dangerous and unpredictable powers bestowed upon a mere child. As wrong as the scientists were for trying to enforce their own judgments and fears, I can somewhat understand now why they felt the need to have me sealed away. How does one justify one life being more valuable than billions of lives upon a planet?" Her head shook slowly as her voice dropped to a more softer tone. "The value of life can't be measured fairly in such a way, Gohrick. Even when it was me who posed as such a threat even when I didn't understand the politics and dangers going on around me at the time."

With a small sigh, her arms released her legs and shifted behind her so she could lean against her hands now planted against the ground. "No one knows for sure what happened that day I was taken to the Sorceress tomb to be sealed.... some say.... it was the god, Hyne, himself who put a stop to it and destroyed everyone and everything to prevent the powers he handed down to be sealed away by man. Some say.... it was my own powers reacting as a natural defense even though I never willingly summoned them. But whatever truly happened..." Her head tilted to reveal a bit of sadness within her gaze. "No one ever dared to try and take me away again. No one ever dared to speak against my existence openly again. The fears remained, but they became secluded under scrutinizing eyes and preparing for the worst that never came at all."

Now she turned to the night sky, so much like her own in her home world, yet her trained eye immediately saw every difference in the constellations above them. "The fears died down over the years once a way was discovered to hibernate my powers to keep them at bay. I forced myself to become what everyone else wanted me to be in order to pacify those fears even more."

She left her story at that point, feeling a wave of awkwardness wash over her for speaking so much of herself. With a faint scowl, she felt a bit vain for it before looking down at relaxing Mithra once again. "And what of you, Gohrick? What led you to be beyond the protection of your home? How did you escape the very hands that wounded you as you were?"

PostSubject: Re: Fed-Ex was never like this.....   Sun Mar 11, 2012 8:21 pm

He couldn't help but smiled faintly as he saw her scowling at the sleeping summon, and wondered more about this mysterious power. On his own world, only very select few could even hope to harness the power of an Avatar, or as they called them here, GF, elsewhere Summons, Aeons...the list went on and on. He never dared to try his hand at such a magic, but then again...He never really tried to gain any power or ability other than his artistic ones. Perhaps that was time to change...A thought for later.

He slowly sat up and nearly mirrored Shade, his knees moving up to his chest as his arms crossed on front of them, his head resting and staring back into those steel hues which, unlike a blade, could show all kinds of emotions if a person was just willing to look.

He listened, his ears twitching, as she explained a little about her powers, how they were feared...'Hated more like it, it seems'...How dangerous that they could become if handled wrong. He found himself biting his lower lip to prevent interrupting her. He could tell this wasn't a topic often brought up, or maybe even discussed, from how she seemed to chose her words properly.

As she further explained the 'justifiable' reasons for the early stages of her life, how one life couldn't measure of to the millions, he felt his upper lip curl, and a faint growl passed over his lips before he put a lid on his overflowing anger. One life versus the millions...Shade was right, life couldn't be measured, and Gohrick had heard that old adage for to much for his own liking over the years. His chest tightened as she further explained what happened when they actually did try and seal her up. He had to close his eyes for a moment...How could they do that to a mere child? How could they try and stop a life so young when the soul was, he didn't doubt it for a moment, so kind?

Perhaps he was thinking of this from a biased point, but still...A child who could 'destroy the world', and was isolated, persecuted, and hated...what better way to turn that ire towards themselves and create a self fullfilling prophecy.

He slowly opened his eyes and stared back at Shade as she stared up at the skies, explaining how after the incident, people started to back off and seemed ready for the worst. IT was at this time that he felt the need to speak up.

“I agree with you Shade, in that life cannot be measured like that, but to persecute a child who was gifted with such a power...” he paused for a moment, searching for the right words as he bit down on his lower lip again with his fangs, trying not the let the seething wave of emotion get the better of him.

“I find myself admiring your strength even more so Shade. I don't think I could have been so strong...To be feared, to nearly be sealed up in such a way...I find it amazing that you didn't give them a real reason to be afraid of you. I probably would have. I wouldn't have been able to take all that and turn it into a strength.

I have seen but a small portion of that raw power you have...I could feel it flowing all around me by that tree...It was amazing to behold. It was terrifying, but not in a way that I feared for my life...No, it was terrifying because before me is an amazing woman who could control such a power, and use it for so much good if you so desired. And from my understanding, you run what could be the most powerful military force on your world...and yet, you protect, you nurture, you run a true garden, turning everyone around you into a solid forest that will never fall. I wasn't blind during my tour before the training center...the people there could easily kill me...hell, they could easily take down most warriors I know of at home...Yet with few exceptions, I felt nothing but kindness and a protective nature surrounding each and every one of them.

They easily get that from you. You who was feared...are one of the kindest and most giving people I have known in my life. I don't believe that you should force yourself to be what others want. In the end, that is just giving them the power. I understand that you may have to, least the old fears return but...mayhaps I am too bold, but I sense the real you is just as kind and amazing as you have been to me thus far.”

He stopped and continued to stare at her, giving her a soft smile, before reaching out and lightly touching her shoulder, giving a soft squeeze, before her next questions towards him caused him to smirk slightly and nod his head.

“Ah...protection of home, or solitude confinement? That is the real question,” he sighed slightly, knowing this was going to be a bit of a long story, but as she seemed to be enjoying his company, he hoped she wouldn't mind.

“As I'm sure you've noticed by now, I am a male Mithra. Now, this is important, because the Mithra race is about...oh, I'd say 90-95% female. They run everything, from the villages to the mercenary armies. In fact, very, very rarely do you ever see a male, much less a male leader. We are considered too valuable to continue our race. Most tribes are alright, keeping the few males safe...I wasn't so much lucky. My own tribe had a much...different approach.

You see, the males were kept in fairly isolated rooms. Very few visitors that weren't for breeding. Very few chances for fresh air, for seeing the sun...That kind of a life wasn't for me. I guess I was smart for my age, but I had seen what was going on. I didn't want that kind of life. I was an artist, I wasn't about to have my life stunted because groups of females wanted to breed. I wasn't going to be stock...I wanted freedom to do what I wanted. I wanted to find someone to love as my own, someone who would love me back...Someone special. That was what I wanted...Then I saw a passing airship. That to me was the ultimate sign of freedom.

I was about five or six when I managed to escape, a few years before I was going to start being trained as breeding stock. Now, I continue from there, because that is eventually how I managed to get stuck on a passenger ship where I got...my scar,”
he paused, clearing his throat, before it was his turn to look down at the ground for a moment.

“I managed to get to the local ship port, and lived life on the side for a while, stealing to eat and sleeping wherever it was deemed safe, keeping clear of any Mithra that I could. Last thing I wanted was to be captured by another tribe for the same thing...

When I turned eleven, I managed to get a job working on the loading dock. Eventually, I was promoted to work inside the ship, delivering goods and being a general go for. It was about two or three years later that I managed to secure a job on a passenger airship. I thought it was the dream job, and for a year or two...it was. Then Biharo took over...

He made everyone's life a living hell, but paid very well. Too well to want to leave. Add to the fact that he had a lot of the local Captains under his thumb and well...if you left, you were never getting airborn again.

I'm not going to go into...graphic details about what happened. But I will say, that is a horrible way to lose your virginity. Eventually...I had enough. I...”
he stopped, swallowing and staring up at Shade.
“Please don't judge me on the desperate actions...” he begged softly, before he continued.

“I rigged the ship...it was a routine trip, minimal passengers...I didn't know how bad it was going to be. I was hoping for a minor crash, something on a distant world so I could run in the chaos...or maybe I was just looking for the end at the time...I don't know what made me do it...” he paused and closed his eyes.

“The ship crashed in Spira...I was thrown out and ended up in Bikanel Desert. The ship was...completely destroyed. Most of the passengers escaped, and the crew...Biharo didn't. He was trapped in his quarters...I made sure of that. Still, innocent blood stained my hands...I didn't want to live like that anymore. I wanted out...so I made my exit...far more then I expected, as I was found by Jiranto and Hydria Valsis, local dig team Al Bhed. I was laid out for a good four months...and I started over there,” he said, finishing his tale while scratching the back of his head.

“Like I said...no where near as strong as you are...or even were when younger...all my life I've been running it seems...I've never really had a home unless you call the Calamity home...the crew my family. Cypherous the angry, broody big brother for lack of a better term. But still, always running...I'm tired of running,” he said with a slight sigh. “And I'm sorry for monopolizing the conversation for so long,” he said, giving her a soft smile.

"Sit down, shut up, and enjoy the ride. If you don't, well too bad, this is the only ride from start to finish, so make the best of it. You might be surprised at what an unexpected turn can bring ya."

Shade had never heard of herself being spoken in such a way, especially being anything related to "kind". Nor was she accustomed to the awkwardness that followed, or how to react to it. At most, she was either pegged for being too harsh, or chided often, for being hard cold serious most of the time. To opinions such as those, she easily shrugged them off. As for running the Garden facility, she simply saw herself as running the SeeD program with better efficiency to improve the student's skills, as well as their lives for when they would venture out on their own as adults. For now, she gave a faint smile and a simple nod of acknowledgement as he gave her shoulder an assuring squeeze before listening to his tale be told.

She had read in the past about the severe difference in Mithra ratio, but Shade never gave thought to how such a difference could play a controlling hand over a life of such value. For one with such a free spirit as Gohrick had, it came to no surprise that he would do what it took to gain his freedom in order to live his life as his own, and with the freedom of choice so many took for granted. But it was when the Mithra averted his gaze to the ground that Shade knew he was about to broach the more difficult part of his past, and so she remained quiet and patient just as he was for her, and listened intently. It all sounded much like a grand adventure for a young Mithra... to finally be so free and working upon airships where one could see the world, or several of them, and then by Gohrick's gaze returning to hers, and the nervous turn his steady voice fell into, a sudden chill ran down Shade's spine with the knowing that the worst was about to come before he uttered a word to his confession.

As he spoke through the nightmare of his past, her hand slid to the back of her neck to rub down the small hairs that stood on end. Yet she blinked in surprised by what came next.... nowhere as strong as she? It led to a subtle deadpan expression to fall over her face and a brief sigh from her lips, yet she didn't want to give off the impression that she was upset by what he said. "Gohrick.... you have not monopolized the conversation. And if anything, I should have Griever's big hind end sit on you for an entire day for saying you are nowhere near as strong as I am..."

After her warning, she gave a soft lift to the corner of her mouth to reveal her threat wasn't serious. "So many have the misconception of measuring internal strength by what all one goes through, or suffers in their life. Thing is, that alone is not what makes someone strong. It's how one perseveres through what all they endure, how one lives their lives afterwards, the morals they uphold, or whether they choose to be blinded by bitterness." She gave him a few moments for her words to sink in before continuing.

"You've done the same as I have, Gohrick. You survived the hand dealt to you with a fierce will, you've continued to be there for those dear to you obviously by the loyal and caring friends who accompanied you to Balamb. The pain and scar ripped into you could have very well consumed you with hate and drowned your soul with darkness as I have seen happen to so many others. And many who have done so haven't even gone through half of what you have." Her gaze ventured to the sky again with a more peaceful look upon her face. "Besides.... if you hadn't done what you did.... you very well wouldn't be alive to be here right here and now..."

Gohrick looked back up into her eyes as she said his name, tilting his head slightly as she playfully threatened him, causing his eyes to widen before a faint smile crossed his lips. He stared at her, then turned back to the sleeping Summon as she gave her own slight smile.

“And here I though we were friends...and already you want to kill me,” he said with a grin, before a soft chuckle passed over his lips as her words quite readily lifted up the mood in her own way. He took a deep breath and sighed, before he continued to stare into her eyes.

He could only nod as she explained her view on what real strength was, and was surprised when she said he had done just what she had in terms of persevering and overcoming the cards dealt to him by fate. He hadn't seen it like that...he had seen it as the coward's way out...just like the other times he just couldn't bare to do it himself. Subconsciously, his paw moved over his wrist, before he could only nod his head.

“It did...” he said softly, before realizing what he was about to say. Should he dare? Could he share something like that? He stared up at her, staring deep into her steel eyes for a moment. Without even realizing it, as if he was searching for something, he leaned his head forward a bit, moving a few inches closer, before getting an answer. She wouldn't give him pity...and he didn't want it. That was why he didn't tell his crew...he kept it in the dark, and no one ever bothered to look under the fur.

He took a deep breath, before he slowly started to talk again, his voice low, but steady. Far different then when explained what Biharo did to him...this was about what he did to himself.

“It did consume me...with a lot of hate...a lot of rage. However...it wasn't directed at him...it was at myself. For being so weak to allow it to happen. Night after night...abuse after abuse...I couldn't stop him...and I wanted it to end. And even then...” he stopped and rubbed his wrist again while biting on his lower lip.

“Even then I couldn't end it. I was too scared of knowing what would happen to my body after...there was no way I was going to allow that bastard to sell off my skin to the highest bidder...” he said, before taking a deep sigh. This was such a depressing conversation when it should be so much happier, but still...

“I'm sorry if it seems like I'm taking advantage of you Shade...I just...I've never had anyone...to tell all this too without having to worry about being pitied. It's not what I want...I just...wanted someone to know...and what the hell am I rambling about now...” he questioned himself at the end of the statement, before reaching up and giving hair a slight pull to try and bring himself back around, giving her a slightly awkward smile. Yeah, this was going to end well...

The humor between them was brief until the unexpected shift in his hues went from mirth to.... what she thought to be silent hope. It led to a slight tilt in her head with a mix of confusion and assurance within her own eyes while giving him what time he needed to let out what else he wished to share about his past. Sometimes Shade wondered if it was a gift, or a curse..... the way she heard far much more in one's voice than in the words they spoke. Gohrick's tone beheld what felt like internal shame, laced with regret, and her gaze caught sight of his attention drawn to his wrist as he went deeper into his confession in which she already suspected before he uttered a word.

Once he finished revealing his own dark secret, she acknowledged his attempt to sway the mood lighter from the tug to her hair by returning it with a softened look within her eyes before slowly taking his paw with a steady hand. For the moment, she locked her steady gaze with his to be sure she had his full attention, and to see the seriousness within her steel hues as well as within her own voice as she spoke. "I do not see a coward when I see these...." Her fingers to her other hand had already brushed the fur aside from his wrist to reveal what he had been hiding. But her eyes never looked down. They remained fixed intently on his, but her touch emphasized the depth and truth to her words. "These also represent your strength, Gohrick.... because you still lived. Everyone makes mistakes... no matter their race, no matter their trials and tribulations. And everyone always meets their point of weakness in life. It's what we do when we confront that weakness, that darkness, face to face that matters most. That's what determines whether one is a coward, or one is fierce and brave."

Now her gaze slowly drifted down, while brushing her fingertips over the scars, feeling the scar tissue risen from the skin. Her voice also fell smooth and calm as she spoke her own beliefs. "When you faced your darkness from this.... your will still chose to live. Had you honestly been a coward, Gohrick.... you would have died from the attempt..." After a moment's silence between them, with nothing but the evening crickets singing between them, Shade's fierce gaze slowly returned to hold his own, but not in anger. Her eyes were full of promise and truth for him to accept what she said, as well boring her own inner strength into him in order to make him believe. "Never find yourself to be a coward again when look upon these. These are scars, yes.... but scars of strength, just as one gains scars from a battle of survival. Even when it's an internal battle. Understand?"

Gohrick couldn't meet her eyes at first...how could he, when he felt such shame at his actions? Eventually though, he felt their gaze and slowly looked up, expecting to see disgust or anger in them...what he saw actually caused him to gasp slightly. They were gentle, caring...accepting. He didn't move as her hand moved forward, gripping his wrist and moving the fur away to show the scars. Seems the Banora fruit didn't heal everything...He shivered slightly as her fingertips grazed over the scar tissue, his ears twitching slightly as he listened wholeheartedly to her words.

He continued to stare into her eyes, his other paw moving up and lightly placing it over her own hand, giving a soft squeeze as he took her words in, listening to her tone, and how she phrased her sentences. An attempted self murder that failed constituted as strength? He had never thought of it like that...he had always kept his wrists hidden, either in his pocket or using his fingers to twirl something to distract all but the keenest eyes. He knew many wouldn't see it like that, but Shade...he listened. He trusted her and felt his heart swell slightly as she looked down at the wounds, shivering slightly once more as she touched them lightly.

He opened his mouth several times, but found himself unable to speak for the few quiet moments after Shaded questioned him. He swallowed and nodded his head instead, before giving her hand a soft squeeze once more, finally finding his strength.

“I think I get it. I've never...heard it put like that before. I've been to several worlds and...its always...considered a sign of weakness...of being a coward for not fighting...I never...really thought of it as a sign of strength. A moment of weakness turned to strength. A unique way of looking at it,”
he said softly, before giving Shade a soft smile.

“I'm glad I lived Shade...despite the odds...the pain...the fear. I'm glad I lived. If I hadn't, I would have never met you. And that is something that I have found very much worth everything I have gone through,” he said, a slight blush under his fur, but his eyes never left her own. “I understand now Shade. I...you truly are an Angel Shade. In the short time that I've known you, I've been healed in more ways than I can count. My mind...my body...your acceptance and understanding...and the best part is you didn't give me any pity. I...” he paused and closed his eyes for a moment, before staring back into her eyes.

He blinked as he stared at her, and found himself leaning towards her once more. He couldn't seem to control what he was doing, but as he neared, he realized and adjusted slightly, giving her cheek a gentle kiss while his paw gave her hand a soft squeeze.

“Shade...is it strange that, despite being such a short time...you've already secured a place in my heart?” he asked softly, while gently staring into her eyes.

"Sit down, shut up, and enjoy the ride. If you don't, well too bad, this is the only ride from start to finish, so make the best of it. You might be surprised at what an unexpected turn can bring ya."

Shade watched him intently as he took her words in, expecting a possible disagreement, or him simply denying her words all together. For some, a positive prospective was too difficult to accept right away. But to her relief, the Mithra finally gave a nod and voiced his acceptance and understanding. even though he was told otherwise by everyone else. "Most people tell you that because they're scared themselves, Gohrick. Mostly due to foolish culture beliefs and they're scared because they've come so close to doing the same. Knowing you've come to that threshold reminds them of that fear, so they shun you in attempts to make themselves appear stronger believers to their foolish beliefs. Others tell you it's weakness because it makes themselves feel stronger for putting others down by any means they can. Whatever the reasons for anyone telling you, they're flat out wrong, and weaker themselves for trying to crush someone's spirit with cruel words."

With a slight shake of disgust to her head, Shade looked away when she felt her own irritation of society begin to rise. Yet when she faced him again, she relaxed once more when seeing him smile and began to nod to his words slowly. She was just as glad to have met him as well. Where her own painful past made her brute cold and suspicious to nearly everything and everyone, Gohrick still found kindness in so much when he looked at the worlds and what they had to offer, rather than turning bitter and skeptical to everything that crossed his path. Perhaps it was her own lesson to learn...

When he spoke of "angel" again, her eyebrow arched with a twitching smirk and a slight shake of her head. Surely the Lifestream magic that healed him left his brain a bit addled. But even though his compliments had rendered Shade speechless, the subtle shift in his tone drew in her attention, leading her to suspect he was about to speak of another painful confession while Gohrick leaned close as if he were about to whisper. She didn't expect quite such profound words, or his token of affection upon her cheek, as her head slowly tilted to the side with a studious gaze upon him. For several moments, Shade could only stare at him with silence lingering between them. She had never faced signs of affection this way, especially since her presence alone scared off any attempts before they were even thought of by anyone. Those few who tried only because of egotistical dares were left pissing in their pants by her glare alone. In all her training in techniques and tactics, Shade was left completely ignorant as to how to react or handle his kind action.

Instead her hand slipped away from beneath his grasp, but not to pull away as Shade normally did with any physical contact. Instead, she rested it back lightly over his own and gave a pat or two of assurance as she spoke quite low, while pausing here and there struggling for words she wasn't accustomed to speaking. Especially when it came to someone speaking of feelings or of their own heart. "Who am I to tell you how your heart should behave, Gohrick.... No one can because no controls what a heart feels, or when it feels....."

Her steel hues drifted away for a moment in thought when she realized just how shut off her own heart was to those around her. Only recently had it creaked its door when her brother and his daughters entered into her life. She specifically trained herself never to have her heart effected by anything or anyone by any means due to the heavy responsibilities placed upon her shoulders, and by all those who depended upon her. "There are no laws written that the heart abides to, Gohrick. It's as free as your spirit chooses it to be. So no, nothing the heart feels, or when, is strange. If yours has the ability to feel so freely, I applaud you for that for all the pain its endured." She tried offering a smile, but suspected it probably looked rather awkward to him.

Gohrick found himself blushing after he kissed her cheek, and felt her hand patting his paw, as if he was a good lad. He felt a bit foolish, letting his emotions get ahead of his mind like that, but he was never one who could repress his emotions that well. It came with being an artist, he was told once, in that the desire to make his emotions known either in person or on paper. He had accepted that before, but now...well, too late to take back what was said or done.

He could, however, give her hand another soft squeeze and stare happily into her steel hued eyes once more, before pulling back and sitting back on the grass hill, his legs crossing under him.

“So basically...everyone was telling me it was wrong, because they were scared that I was a reflection of what they once had to face. That's a bit stupid on their part then...I always thought that if you saw someone going through what you went through, if was some sort of moral obligation to try and help them through it if they were accepting,” he said softly, before shrugging his shoulders, once more just not understanding why people had to be so cruel to each other.

Gohrick wasn't blind, in fact, he often times saw too well, and could see that she just didn't understand or was just so unused to signs of affection, that it caused his heart to hurt slightly for her. He could get it, as Cypher had done much of the same. Cut off all emotions to the heart, and you couldn't be hurt as badly anymore. That was the theory...the logic was about as sound as a flying shoopuff though.

Still, it wasn't his place to say she was in the wrong, just as she explained that whatever he felt in his heart was his to choose, so it was hers as well. He could only stare at her for a few more moments as another strong breeze picked up the fur on his back, sending a shiver down his back. He paused and took a few moments to sniff the air. It was getting damp.

“There may be no laws, and it's true that there may well be nothing to say about the matter of another's heart or what they are feeling...but I find myself treasuring these moments, our short time together...and I would very much like to create more memories like this. I said before you were my friend...I find myself viewing you as more, but I'm not...sure how to really put it in words. But perhaps that is a conversation for later, when the threat of rain isn't quite so hovering over us,” he said with a small smile as some of the stars they had been looking at were getting blocked out by dark clouds.

Gohrick loved the rain, but knew not everyone felt the same. With a slightly regretful look in his eyes, he slowly made his way to his feet and offered his paw for her to take. He gave her a friendly smile, but his eyes told a slightly different story, once that was far softer and admiring then just a look a friendship.

Shade watched the Mithra as he leaned back to relax and contemplate over her words. She sighed as well as her gaze drifted over the glowing pool and agreeing with his outlook as well. "It's a shame that humanity and some of other races allow themselves to be led fear of judgement or guilt, Gohrick." Shade turned her head again to give him a half smile and a subtle nod. "But you've obviously quite done well on your own, and became the stronger for it."

She looked away once more as another breeze whipped past them, this time beholding a slight chill within the air, leading Shade to lean forward with her arms wrapped around her legs in attempts to keep her warmth about her. His next words sobered her thoughts and kept her gaze averted. She didn't want to sting his feelings just after he experienced such a healing Gohrick never imagined possible. But how could she ever explain how so many found friendship alone with her to be virtually intolerable? Or why Shade found distance to be the safest route with people due to her life style, obligations, and what she truly was? As her mind struggled within those those few fractions of a second, her companion rescued her from having to give an answer when he noticed the weather was about to make an abrupt change.

With his paw now held out for her to take if she wished, Shade took a brief moment to study his eyes. Out of routine and her strict mental training, there was no holding back that moment of instinctive skepticism she always harbored around anyone, but she kept it hidden behind her passive expression as she glanced at the night sky. Griever was already slowly moving back to his feet while releasing a wide long yawn behind her, reminding Shade how the Guardian Force despised the rain. So with a nod, she took Gohrick's offering paw and hoisted herself back upon her feet just as Griever looked up at the clouds with a sniff and growl of annoyance rumbling within his throat. Shade gave Gohrick a look that a mix of awkwardness within her cool reserve before acknowledging what he had said as her hand reached out to pat Griever's leg to sooth the summons agitation. "You know you're always welcome in Balamb, Gohrick... to visit when ever you wish, and to stay for as long as you like..."

She could only hope the Mithra took her words as a welcomed invitation even though Shade was looking to the horizon as she spoke, yet found herself further irritated not knowing how to handle such simple situations. If it were a discussion about a mission, or debating with leaders, or making decisions, Shade was in her comfort zone. Anything personal left her ill at ease and stumbling over herself until she could put distance between herself and the source. Yet Shade didn't wish to do such a thing to Gohrick, knowing already he was a genuine friend. For now, she forced her shadowed hues to look back up at him again with the same previous awkward smile. "I can have the auto pilot bring the ship to us... or...."

Just then, her hand rose up to the sky with her glowing gaze following as her powers began to grow within her palm. Within seconds, a small funnel of winds began to grow and hover for a few brief moments before rising from her hand and into the skies where it grew in strength and widened its reach. Shade's winds slowly entwined within nature's clouds to gently nudge away the upcoming rains to then reveal the stars and moon once more above them. With her hues still aglow, Shade returned her gaze back to her companion with a soft smile. "...we can still take flight ourselves, if you wish..."

Gohrick stared down at her as she stared back up at his paw, and while he couldn't read her face behind that mask, he felt he had a wild guess as to why she wasn't grabbing it right away. Still, he could only smile kindly down at her, even as she looked away into the sky. His ears twitched as he heard the giant summon yawning and moving up to his feet, feeling the earth tremble slightly under the massive feline, his own tail slowly curling and flipping behind him. As Shade took his hand, he helped to pull her up, giving her a grin as he gave her hand a gentle squeeze before letting go.

He found himself gazing into her eyes once more as she looked at him, before his head tilted as she looked away and started to pat her summon. His ears twitched as he smiled, hearing her invitation, feeling his heart fill a little more. “Hm...I might take you up on that. It would be nice to have a place to get some roots...no gardening pun intended. I do appreciate the offer Lady Shade,” he said while scratching the back of his head. He never really had a home, and as much as he loved his ship and crew, there were times where he just felt that even the wind had a place to lay it's head.

Gohrick found himself staring at the incoming storm clouds, a peaceful gaze on his face as his arms were resting on the back of his head, almost as if he was stretching, feeling the incoming wind over his bare torso, his eyes closing for a moment, deep in his own thoughts as Shade was in hers. He was scared, but not of her not returning the feelings. Sad to say, he expected it, but that was life. No, what he was truly scared of was losing her as his friend. A friend was hard enough to come by...a good friend was worth their weight in gold...a great friend like Shade...He wondered if the Magistrate Air fleet from Ivelice was enough for someone as amazing as she was. Probably not, but still...

His eyes opened back up as he turned back to her with a small smile as she started to speak, his head tilting slightly at the odd smile on her face. It was then that the fur on his neck stood up a bit as he felt and could swear nearly see her gathering up her powers once again. He watched her as she created the wind, feeling the energies push past him as a cool shiver ran down his spine. He couldn't help but smile as it rose up, growing more powerful and pushing the clouds aside for the time being. Then he heard her words and chuckled slightly.

“Hm....having the ship come here as we sit and twiddle our thumbs and Griever complains more about the rain, or another chance to be in your arms as we soar through the sky and Griever complains about the rain...A choice with only an obvious answer,”
he said with a grin as he made sure the jacket and his supplies were firmly on his person as he made his way over to her with a smile.

"Sit down, shut up, and enjoy the ride. If you don't, well too bad, this is the only ride from start to finish, so make the best of it. You might be surprised at what an unexpected turn can bring ya."

Shade's head tilted slightly at Gohrick's last words as a smirk struggled against her restraint to tug at the corner of her lips. Her hues were still illuminated by her powers, yet with a much more subtle glow about them. For the moment, she refrained from commenting to his quaint hint about being in her arms, but Griever heard every word about himself being a complainer, and slowly swung his head to place his enormous nose against the Mithra's chest.

The Guardian Force didn't nudge or push as Shade first expected him to do, but instead remained very still as the pair of emerald eyes locked with Gohrick's for a few silent moments before giving a rather loud snort of air through his nostrils. When the summon's leaned his massive head away, one could have sworn they heard a chuckle rumble within the beast's throat before bringing his four wings to rise and stretch through the air.

At that moment, Shade was slowly shaking her head with her face looking away from the feline antics in case her grin would be seen through the darkness before she took a few steps aside to give distance between them for her own wings to emerge from her back again at a slow graceful pace for each feather to unfurl slowly. Just as Gohrick approached her as his sign that he was ready to take to the skies, Shade gave Griever a motion of her hand to signal his rider was ready. But rather than bend at the knee for the Mithra to climb onto the flaming lion's back as before, Griever brought his giant head back around again with a few steps of his enormous paws to bring him behind Gohrick and snatch him at the waist of his pants to secure his hold with his teeth.

Just as Shade took a step toward him with her mouth agape to scold the GF, Griever hoisted his passenger up and took a great leap into the air with all of his wings giving a mighty swoop to begin his flight. She naturally took off after the summons, yelling her demands and threats at the Guardian through the wind as she struggled to keep up with his impeccable speed, but Griever was obviously having far too much fun to care if his summoner was genuinely angry with him or not. Once he reached above the clouds of threatening rain, the summon's flight swayed back and forth through the air while relishing in the basking moonlight before arching his massive form to perform a couple of loopty loops through the air. While twirling during his aerial antics, Griever caught sight of Shade catching up to him. With a few flicks of his flaming tail, he shot small bouts of flames in her direction as a humorous purr rumbled through his throat as he continued carrying Gohrick off like a mere ragdoll toy.

Gohrick was giving Shade a small smile, seeing that tiny hint of a smirk on her lips before his vision was completely overrun by red and golden fur and two annoyed looking eyes. He blinked and smiled at Griever with a slightly nervous chuckle. He reached out and started to pet the giant feline, giving a small, apologetic smile, knowing that maybe he had taken for granted how much the giant summon actually liked him.

As the lion snorted at him, Goh actually took a step back to balance himself, blinking from the suddenly push of hair. His ears twitched slightly as he heard the rumble in the larger feline's throat. 'That might not be a good sign for me,' Gohrick thought, before chuckling lightly himself as he saw the massive wings expand, the lion looking ready to pounce into the skies.

Just as he was watching Shade's wings uncurl and expand to their full length, he realized that just because someone was large didn't mean that they couldn't move when they wanted to. He just realized that too late as he felt himself being lifted up by his pants, a whimper passing his lips as he was given what could only be called a wedgie from hell. He turned his head, seeing himself in Greiver's maw, before suddenly the pair went airborn.

“Griever...ow...seriously...ow...I'm sorry...OW!”
he cried out, as each flapping of the wings caused him to jerk slightly, feeling the pants digging into him more and more as he found himself hanging in despair, trying hard not to cry out in pain anymore. After a few more beats of the wings, Gohrick leaned his body and reached back, gripping against the Summon's lips and pulling himself slightly, sighing as he was supporting his weight now and no longer felt the bite of the pants against him.

“Ok, not to self...don't tease the cat,”he muttered before his grip was lost as Griever started his aerial dance with Shade, crying out again as the flying cat decided to preform a loop de loop, before Gohrick suddenly heard a slight ripping noise. He blinked as he suddenly no longer felt the pain of being held by the hem of his pants...but then again, he didn't think it a good thing if he could suddenly see Griever above him, with Shade chasing after him as well.

'And just when the night was going so well,'
he thought, before he started to fall through the clouds, sighing slightly and making a mental note that wings or some sort of flight spell was going to become a requirement if he was going to be hanging out with Griever and Shade more often. Still, this didn't meant he was completely helpless...just moderately. But if Gohrick knew anything, it was how ships stayed in the air, and quickly pulled out a paint brush.

It wasn't easy drawing in a completely free fall, but eventually, he had drawn was could crudely be called a set of box wings, which quickly solidified just as they passed out of the bottom of the clouds. He was still falling, quite certainly of that, but now he had a bit more control over the fall, and he was falling much slower than before. He stared up towards the clouds and knew Shade was going to be having a heart attack, so he did what he could to send up a signal to where he was with a few cries up at the clouds, hoping she could hear his calls and roars.

What in the hell had gotten into Griever!?

With her jaw clenched and solely concentrating on catching up to her Guardian Force, Shade could even hear Gohrick's shouts and apologies to the summons being carried through the wind. She knew Griever's actions weren't meant to be aggressive. He just took a great interest to the Mithra for some reason, which Shade assumed it was because Gohrick was of a feline race as was the GF itself. But like a big playful dog, the summons didn't comprehend his strength when he tried to be playful outside of battle.

When the material ripped and broke free of Griever's hold, the GF was left with a startled expression for loosing his grip over his prey, but took swift action and soared right after the free falling Mithra. A growling sound of curiosity rumbled through his throat when seeing the odd objects suddenly materialize out of nowhere from Gohrick, and little did Griever know the box wings were meant to aid in slowing the Mithra's spiraling fall. To a massive sized Guardian Force in the mood to play and romp through the air, Griever simply assumed they were objects to play with. And so, as he soared after Gohrick with his front paws reaching out, the summons was left stupified once more when the box wings crushed so easily within his talons, sending the poor Mithra to fall at full speed once more.

Shade was just about to reach the duo when Griever made the mistake of trying to capture Gohrick by his make shift wings, only to shout in frustration when she saw them mutilated within the summons grasp. With another snap of her wings through the air, she zipped past the Guardian Force with a beeline straight for the Mithra as he was shouting once more before hurling through a thick patch of clouds. Had he not been yelling for her, Shade may very well have lost sight of him all together through the dark skies and clouds shrouding the subtle light of the moon. The last cry of alarm pin pointed Gohrick's location and her outstretched hands finally caught hold of his arm to them grasp the other as well before Shade unfurled her wings slowly so not to jerk the Mithra's body at a sudden halt.

Now able to breath a sigh of relief through the pounding heartbeat drumming through her ears, Shade kept the gliding descent slow and steady while trying to apologize for Griever's behavior over the whipping winds around them. "I don't know what's gotten into him, Gohrick.... he seems to have taken quite a liking to you... but I've never seen Griever act this obnoxious before..."

Little did Shade and Gohrick realize that Griever wasn't through playing just yet. When seeing Shade previous whip past him to catch up with the Mithra's fall, the Guardian Force simply assumed she decided to join in the playful aerial game. Now he was soaring directly after them with a roar of excitement that led Shade to look over her shoulder and see a pair of shimmering green eyes closing the distance between them at an expeditious rate. Her own eyes widened in brief panic as her grip to Gohrick's arms shifted underneath them so her arms and hands held him securely around his chest. "Ohhh shit! This is going to be a rough flight! Hold on!!"

Her wings cracked through the air again for the pair to soar through the clouds in hopes to shield them from the summon's sight, but Shade knew all too well Griever had a nose that could track them miles away. Her attempt to flee only encouraged his sense of play as the GF roared again, this time sounding dreadfully close. Shade jerked her body at a hard left, then hoisted herself and the Mithra higher in the opposite direction in attempts to backtrack her previous path in the air to throw off the direction of her scent, knowing Griever couldn't make such drastic turns due to his enormous size. The edges of his wings barely brushed past their bodies, and Shade had to bank left hard as Griever's flaming tail came whipping past them, nearly setting their clothes aflame. When she heard his roar of frustration for being temporarily duped, Shade knew there wasn't much time before he would catch up with them again.

Looking over her shoulder once more, she shouted an idea through the wind. Gohrick's hands were free....so maybe.... just maybe... "Think you paint some distractions to get him off our trail?"

Gohrick's muscles were already straining to hold the wings in place, and he had just been doing so for a few moments, the wind fighting against him hard. There was no way to paint more supports, least he end up tail spinning. He cried out as he felt his left shoulder starting to burn, as though someone had cut deep into it, when suddenly the wings he were holding suddenly crumpled and flew from his arms as the giant summon decided to try and catch him. He found himself free falling once more and soon found himself gripping his shoulder as they fell.

'Dammit...that wasn't my brightest move,' he thought as he continued to fall, before feeling Shade grabbing on to his good arm. He gripped hers back tightly only to cry out again as she held on to his bad shoulder. This was not the time to gripe though as she fought to keep them aloft though, for as soon as she had him tightly in her arms, it was time for a hard dodge. He felt his shoulder jerk and bit down on his tongue as they barely avoided Griever, feeling the fur on his side curl slightly from the heat of his tail.

“Likes me huh? I'd hate to see if he didn't like me at this point...”
he said, his eyes watering from the pain as he felt his shoulder jerking once more as Shade flapped to get altitude once more.

Gohrick was panting at this point, feeling another burst of adrenaline kick in as his heart was pounding hard. He took heed to Shade's words, but hadn't the breath to try and respond as of yet. As the duo soared through the clouds once more, he knew it would only be a matter of time before they were found once more.

He tilted his head as Shade requested some distractions, which caused him to nod his head. “I can try, but if he has our scent...I don't know how good they will do,” he admitted, before gripping his paintbrush tightly. He knew the giant feline was playing around, but seriously, after the day that had already, as well as all the ups and down...now was not the best time to be playing aerial tag. He bit down on his lower lip as he thought for a moment, before it clicked. If Griever was going to go by scent...then...

He quickly pulled some fur off of his arm and tossed them in the inkwell, hoping his scent would mix with the ink as the brush dipped in and stirred. He then drew it out and started some of his fastest work to date. They were vague, they were a little abstract, but soon a dozen or so birds took flight in the clouds, spreading his scent through the air and into the clouds, all heading towards Griever. He seemed to have enjoyed the birds before, so Gohrick was hoping that once again he would give chase and give the pair a moment to breathe properly.

"Sit down, shut up, and enjoy the ride. If you don't, well too bad, this is the only ride from start to finish, so make the best of it. You might be surprised at what an unexpected turn can bring ya."

She knew the Mithra was hurting by the tension in his muscles and labored breathing, but there was little Shade could do for the sake of keeping out Griever's reach. Still, she found blame within herself for the Guardian Force's behavior, having given the beast hardly any down time for him to spend his excess energy. And now they were paying the price by a one ton flying lion trying to play cat and mouse through the air. What annoyed her even more was Griever's playful expression and floppy tongue flapping through the air because the summons actually felt like an overgrown puppy just wanting to play fetch.

Yet her hopes of escape soared when seeing Gohrick's artistic idea come to life in the air. It was quick thinking on his part since Shade was far too distracted keeping them out of Griever's reach as well as keeping a close eye on the beast for his next aerial move. Sure enough, once the Guardian Force caught sight of the flock of geese, he released a great roar of excitement and cracked all four wings through the air to suddenly change direction and give chase to the false illusion of birds. With a sly smile watching her GF become fooled, Shade smiled through the winds cascading around them. "Brilliantly done, Gohrick..." She didn't even realize she let out a slight chuckle seeing the Summons so easily fooled being so lost in his playful manner, but her attention snapped right back to Mithra in her arms when feeling him wince in pain again.

Her massive wings shifted and arched into the current of the winds to slow their descent towards the ground as she carefully shifted her arms around his chest to lessen the pressure of her hold from beneath his arms in hopes to lessen the painful discomfort to his shoulder. There came a faint, but sudden intake of breath of surprise when she saw the Ragnarok was right beneath them! Giving a quick mental thanks of gratitude to the Goddess for such luck, Shade kept their landing in front of the giant airship as gentle as possible. Now upon the ground, her hands felt over Gohrick's shoulder with a silent expression of concern, and a studious gaze in attempts to pinpoint his pain as she spoke with an apologetic tone with her words. "I truly apologize for Griever's actions, Gohrick.... I seriously have no idea what's gotten into him, or why he chose to act up like he did....." She gave a subtle sigh of annoyance as she continued to carefully work over his shoulder and arm, keeping her gaze steady upon her hands. "Perhaps the magical content of the Lifestream effected him somehow... He's never been around such foreign power before.... but I can assure you, he meant no threat at all with his actions...."

Her hands slowly dropped from his arm as one rested upon her hip and the other ran her gloved fingers through her tussled hair as Shade scanned the skies to see if Griever was going to return. "He never did understand his own strength. Perhaps I keep him hibernated too long between battles, or perhaps he's grown bored. He was never this boisterous when I was a child..." She paused for a second or two before returning her hues to meet Gohrick's again as her wings slowly dissipated from her back with each feather slowly blowing away into the wind until there were no more. With a slight smirk, Shade scoffed at herself. "And now here I am rambling on.... for I'm sure you have much better things to do then listen to a self absorbed SeeD with a rambunctious Summons..." It was her best attempt at humor at the moment, using Gohrick's same apologetic words in hopes to lighten her embarrassment over Griever, as well as hoping to ease his discomfort.

Gohrick felt an amazing amount of relief as he watched the giant feline fly off quickly after his birds, causing the artist in him to feel slightly down, but the rest of him extremely glad he didn't end up a red fur patch on the ground. He bit down on his lower lip as Shade continued to flap, each time causing his shoulder to throb in pain, but he said nothing, only nodding his head as she congratulated him. Still, it could be considered worth the pain just to hear her chuckle after such a rush. He quickly pocketed his brush and blinked as he only felt fur...of course, why wouldn't that happen...

Griever's fang had ripped the back of the pants, which already had a hole where Gohrick's tail had gone...so it only made a larger hole, and with no support...and Gohrick having to be commando...

'This is so awkward...'
he grumbled to himself as they continued to fly through the air, slowly descending, feeling her arms shift around his chest and causing him to sigh softly in relief...shoulder still hurt like hell, but this was much better. If only there wasn't such a healthy and cold breeze around them...

Gohrick saw the red of the ship just as he heard Shade gasp, knowing that both were going to be glad to be on the firm ground once again. As they landed, Gohrick quickly bent down and picked up the holey pants, most of his dignity spared save for the breeze he still felt over his rear...magical really.

As Shade went to him and started to feel over his shoulder, the feline was blushing a massive red that was clearly visible through the dark fur, before hissing in pain as she quickly found the torn muscles in his shoulder from his attempt at flight. He heard her apologize and tilted his head, staring into her eyes as he grew serious.

“Shade...you don't need to apologize for everything that happens around you. You are strong and powerful, but you do not control everything...Things happen. Sometimes wonderful things, sometimes horrible things...sometimes death fully embarrassing things. As far as I can see it, Greiver went too far in his playing. He is bound to you, yes, but you do not control his every whim and will...if you did, he would be a robot, not alive. And even then, malfunctions happen...” he paused and scratched the back of his head with his good arm while keeping his pants up with his other arm.

“I guess what I'm getting at is don't worry about it oh rambling one,”
he said with a teasing grin. “Some things just are...Though to be honest, no, I don't really have much better to do...or should I say,” he paused and stared into her steel hues once again.

“There isn't anything I would rather do,”
he said with a grin, before shaking his head.

“I see this evening like this...certainly one that I will never forget. I've met and befriended an amazing woman, in the span of a day, I've felt that bond grow stronger. I was healed from something I thought I would carry all my life...I got to fly an amazing airship. I was treated like a rag doll by a cat, which is pretty ironic...and my life was saved once again by a wonderful angel. A day in paradise really,”
he said with a soft smile, before he leaned in and kissed her cheek.

"Sit down, shut up, and enjoy the ride. If you don't, well too bad, this is the only ride from start to finish, so make the best of it. You might be surprised at what an unexpected turn can bring ya."
